The Driving Challenges (Cart Obstacle Race)
The Driver must maneuver their pony through preset obstacle course to capture
flags set up around the course. Ponies will be blindfolded. Once the Trial has
begun the Handler may not exit the cart until the has been completed. Each flag
or obstacle will be judged independently. The course will be provided to the
drivers prior to the class. The pattern should not be shared with the pony.
Ponies will be held in a ready ring prior to their turn at the pattern (that is,
where they can’t watch). After they have executed the pattern they may watch the
remainder of the competition.
Scoring is as follows:
Lowest score wins.
+10 points penalty for failure to capture a flag
+15 points penalty for skipping an obstacle (each instance)
+5 points penalty for rubbing an obstacle or wall with cart or having to back
up or correct through an obstacle
+1 point penalty for use of verbal commands such as RIGHT, LEFT, FORWARD.
(Whoa, Easy, whistles, clicking noises are permitted without fault)
-2 point bonus for any portion completed at a trot or canter (each instance)
In the event of a tie, the elapsed run time of the course will be used as a tie
breaker.
