Judging Criteria / awarding – deducting of points
Movements: The judge looks to see that the horse is willing, relaxed, supple, fluid and attentive at all times during the test. Any show of resistance, tension or stiffness is penalized.
Rhythm: The judge looks to see if the horse has regularity of the beat within the gait. A human pony must be able to trot or canter in a regular rhythm.
Suppleness: The judge is watching for fluidity of movement both from side to side, left and right and longitudinally so the pony can move fluidly, and does not try to resist when the rider gives an aid.
Contact: The judge is watching to see if the weight of reins feel (looks) the same into both hands? Does it feel elastic? Is there more weight into one hand or the other, or is the horse bearing down on your hands? The Human pony should be aware and have it’s attention on obeying commands, allowing the rider to feel the energy into equally into both hands.
Impulsion: The judge is watches to see if / that the energy the Human pony steps forwards with, whilst maintaining his/her balance. The first scale just has rhythm, this scale has rhythm and balance and energy, because the human pony must be developed in training to have the power to enable the Human pony to spring forward easily.
Straightness: The judge considers as the Human pony becomes more supple, balanced and energetic, it will find it easier to work straight, so within every movement the hind legs will follow in tracks that are straight.
Collection: The judge evaluates once the Human pony has all the previous scales in place he is able to balance himself better and better, and can now perform with greater power.
Halt: The halt must be square and completely immobile.
Walk: The walk should be cadenced, four-beat gait with no shuffling or jogging.
Rein-back: A backward movement where the horse should step evenly with front and hind legs a specific number of steps.
Collection: The horse shortens his frame and stride, becoming more elevated with increased suspension between steps.
Extended Gait: The horse stretches his legs and body to lengthen the stride, maintaining the same rhythm.
Half-Pass: The horse moves obliquely or diagonally forward. The horse should be very straight with neither the hindquarters nor the shoulders leading.
Passage: A collected elevated trot but moving trot. This movement is elegant; the horse appears to float with his steps suspended in the air.
Flying Changes:
When a horse canters the inside front leg lands last in every stride, notably farther ahead of the other three legs. In a flying lead change, the lead hoof changes from right to left or left to right.
Shoulder In:
The horse is slightly bent around the inside leg of the rider, and its inside leg pass and cross in front of the outside leg. The horse is looking away from the direction of moving.
Piaffe: The ultimate collected trot on the spot where the legs are lifted in even cadenced steps with the highest elevation possible.
Pirouette: A Pirouette is a highly developed and difficult form of lateral movement executed on a very small circle with a diameter approximately equal to the length of the horse. It can be performed in all gaits.
